How We Review

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This page explains how we decide what to cover, what we actually check before recommending a card or app, and how our affiliate relationships work. It's here so you know what "we recommend this" means on this site, and what it doesn't mean.

What we evaluate

For credit cards, apps, and subscriptions we cover, we look at:

  • Price and fees — annual fees, waiver thresholds, forex markups, and any charges that aren't obvious from the marketing page.
  • Benefits, as actually structured — reward rates, lounge access conditions, cashback caps, and the fine print that changes what a headline number is really worth.
  • Eligibility and restrictions — income requirements, city availability, and anything that limits who can actually use the product.
  • Cancellation and exit — how hard it is to close an account, cancel a subscription, or get out of a plan once you're in it.
  • Alternatives — whether a cheaper or simpler option covers the same need, since the "best" product for a comparison article isn't always the right one for a specific reader.

We base this on the issuer's or provider's own published terms, our own use of the product where practical, and reporting from other outlets where we can't verify something first-hand. Fees, rates, and terms on financial products change; where a post states a specific figure, treat the provider's current terms page as the source of truth over anything we've written, since we can't guarantee every post reflects the latest change the moment it happens.

How we make recommendations

We recommend a product when it's a genuinely good fit for the use case an article is about, based on the criteria above. We don't recommend something just because it pays a higher commission, and a provider paying us doesn't buy a better mention, a higher ranking, or inclusion in the first place. If we can't find a real strength for a product beyond "it exists," we don't cover it.

Affiliate relationships

Many of the products we cover, particularly on our Recommends andDeals pages and inside individual blog posts, link out through affiliate tracking. We may earn a commission if you sign up or buy something through those links, generally at no extra cost to you. See our Privacy Policy for the full disclosure. Commission arrangements don't determine what we recommend or how we rank things against each other.

What we don't do

  • We don't guarantee loan or card approval, savings, or investment returns.
  • We don't provide personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice — our calculators and comparisons are educational tools based on the numbers you enter or general market figures, not advice tailored to your situation. See our Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.
  • We don't sell placement, rankings, or guaranteed positive coverage.
  • We don't claim a formal newsroom process, editorial board, or credentialed financial-advisory staff we don't have. SubsCut is written and maintained by a small, independent team.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it. If we discover a material factual error in a published post, we aim to correct it and, where it matters (a changed fee, a discontinued benefit, a wrong figure), note that the information has been updated. We don't currently maintain a public changelog of every edit, but you're welcome to ask about a specific post's history by emailing us.
